Kuliax Log

Again, we sent our Third Kuliax Request Packages yesterday, Dec 30, 2006. The locations are Jakarta Selatan, Jakarta Pusat, Malang, Bandung, and Bekasi. Some are our selected persons to do testing of Kuliax 6.0 and others are requestors who will pay the shipping cost. We hope we’ll get feedback of spreading Kuliax 6.0 CDs to many locations in Indonesia.

We received an e-mail from the author/architect of Metalinker, Anthony Bryan, on Monday, Dec 18, 2006 (sorry if it’s somewhat “oldies”).

He said that Kuliax may take the advantages of Metalinker, for fast, easier, reliable, checksum-verified download, as he saw our mirror servers in download.html. Anthony said that:

Downloads can be distributed between mirrors and checksums are automatically verified when it finishes. Mirrors have location and priority information to make the download more efficient.

Now, we’ve studied Metalinker, how the system works, how to do it, etc. So, we’ll start with the generator :-D, but the problem is: all sites that serve Metalinks need to add a MIME type for .metalink files of “application/metalink+xml”. We need to know each site listed in download.html, and their admins of course, allow us to use Metalinker and ask them to add the MIME type on their servers config.

For all admins of Kuliax mirror servers, are you ready and allow your server to do Metalinker?

Today, we’ve sent our second Kuliax Request packages to three different cities in Indonesia: Temanggung, Batam, and Gorontalo. We’re in progress to send five packages for the Third Kuliax Request.

Notes: our international connection is down, as we knew from the news, it’s because FO link in Taiwan is broken by earthquake disaster, yesterday (?). update: it seems that our international connection is up but somewhat slow and some sites can’t be accessed.

Kuliax Project Bugtracker are ready to use by all Kuliax users, developers, contributors, and fans. We’ve just set it up yesterday, and configure to fit our needs. Please post all bugs and features request on that Bugtracker. Btw, we use Flyspray, uncomplicated bugtracker/issuetracker. Enjoy!

Kuliax Project has been updating web pages:

• index.html: fix, clean up, and added Publications section for many links which “talk about” Kuliax.
• download.html: added anak.kambing.vlsm.org mirror server.

Also for you, people from outside Indonesia, we’ve created RELEASE NOTES in English. We hope it helps you to understand what is Kuliax 6.0 distribution “means”. If you want to try Kuliax 6.0 please choose mirror servers in download page and DOWNLOAD it, or BUY at linuxcd.org (just $1.75), yes they have provided Kuliax 6.0 CD without our permission :-D.

We’ve sent our Kuliax 6.0 CDs on Friday, Dec 22, 2006, to six (6) different locations: Bekasi Barat-Jawa Barat, Depok-Jawa Barat, Bandung-Jawa Barat, Makasar-Sulawesi Selatan, Tobasa-Sumatra Utara, Jakarta Pusat. And also we received mail from someone in Pakistan, he wants us to send him a complimentary Kuliax 6.0 CD.

One of our developers has submitted Kuliax on freshmeat.net, this is Kuliax initial freshmeat announcement for version 6.0. We’re surprised when Kuliax approved faster than we thought. Sourceforge.net hasn’t accepted Kuliax Project yet for about 5 business-days, status: Pending Review.

The Coding Studio writes on Newsforge: Kuliax 6.0 Screenshot Walkthrough and this newsvac spread via Newsforge’s RSS, so many websites promoted our Kuliax 6.0 :).

See on the Screenshot Walkthrough, we don’t have such a many shots like them. They have all side shots of Kuliax 6.0, from boot till running applications with resolution 800×600 and 1024×768.

Kuliax added to waiting list of DistroWatch.com (DW), this is what Ladislav Bodnar stated in DistroWatch.com News, DistroWatch Weekly, Issue 182, 18 December 2006:

Kuliax. Kuliax is an Indonesian distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. It is promoted among the Information Technology students in Indonesia as a possible replacement for proprietary operating systems and software.

Actually, Kuliax is based on Debian GNU/Linux and KNOPPIX. Yes, that description above is not our submitted-distribution-words :D.
